At one of the past Teacher Self Care Conferences we heard from a teacher that had 327 sick days piled up... 327! She wasn’t the only one either.. several teachers wore it like a badge of honor how few times they took off work over their career. ・

I get it. We live in this “sleep when I die/no days off” kind of culture. You think no one can run your classroom like you. You don’t want the kids to get behind before that test. How will Johnny ever go on without you for a day?? ・

Listen up. #TakeTheBreak - Teachers are the most selfless people I’ve ever worked with. I am so grateful for their dedication to our kids and helping them shape their best selves for who they will become down the line. But, we need YOU as your best selves too. ・

Teacher turnover & burnout is at an all time high & we NEED you to take care of you. This coming weekend, I hope you actually take time to enjoy it. Breathe. Surround yourselves with people you love. Set new goals. Check out some amazing art. Shift your perspective. Do something you love but haven’t done in awhile. Try something new. REST! ・

If you work in education & are looking for more resources for taking care of yourself in the classroom, consider joining one of my mindfulness trainings or meeting me at one of the upcoming @teacherselfcareconference -s. Click the link in my bio for more info! Create a great day! #makomindfulness
Learning about God and sharing how amazing he is, dope art on random walls, a good hip hop track or a lo-fi beat, Aria & Amarie’s laughs, DOC, any kind of Asian food or a burger with an egg, seeing my big brothers follow their dreams, my amazing friends & family, fitbit competitions with my pops, watching my mom do what she loves and getting to see a totally different side of her, navigating my way through entrepreneurship, my dance family, traveling & experiencing new things, more arts like galleries and live foreign exchange or roots shows, clients that pay on time, rocking chairs, large bodies of water, and minding my business.

These are a few of the things that make me happy (in no particular order after God). They all require their own type of action and attention. Just glad God gave me another day to make a move. Create a great day! #MakoMindfulness
Today I found a list I wrote a couple years ago that had different companies I wanted to work with as a consultant. You were on there. Breathing in my blessings. Breathing out my gratitude. Thank you @TeachForAmerica for allowing me to share my practice with you! #TeachForAmerica #BuildYourDream #TeacherLife #TeachersOfInstagram #MakoMindfulness
They tried to bury us. They didn’t know we were seeds. #EphemeralEternal #StudioBE #NOLA
I’ve had the opportunity to speak at some pretty cool conferences but the @teacherselfcareconference always sticks out. It’s my favorite! ・

You see the lady in the middle? That’s Fran - an educator with a heart of gold and a passion for helping mold sustainable teachers. Fran organizes 1 day self-care institutes throughout the year and an annual 2 day conference in ATL. I love the way this conference brings people together and creates a genuine family feel. You leave with SO much more than attendance - you get tools, friends, and an experience that’s hard to beat. I’m certain I can speak for us all when I say thank you, Fran, for the important work that you’re doing in communities across the country. And thank you for allowing me to be on your team! ・

Meet us in Miami in March & ATL in June! Take good care & create a great day! #TeacherLife #teachersofinstagram #MakoMindfulness
Well, that was a blast 🎉 we got #litwitwhit one last time before she walks down the isle! Reunion trip in order for sure! #HiLarry #Crockpot
Some people enjoy long walks on the beach... I enjoy touring really cool schools and learning about education policy and advocating for our youth lol... kidding, I love beaches too! ・

Okay, jokes aside, I really enjoyed learning about the rich history of Harllee Elementary School. They've got some really innovative approaches to making learning fun for the kids and staff over there. I always appreciate meeting principals that are open minded and flexible about doing whatever it takes to make our schools somewhere students and teachers want to be. Hat's off to Harllee. #GotMyVote #LeadershipISD #DoWhatYouLove
